Download & Install
Click Download, run MimicAudio_v1.0_Setup.exe (or the macOS .pkg), and the plugin installs automatically to your system VST3 folder. No manual file copying. No folder hunting. On macOS, the AU component installs simultaneously. Restart your DAW so it rescans and detects Mimic Audio.
Open in Your DAW
Load Mimic Audio as an instrument plugin on any MIDI track. It works in Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, and Pro Tools. If your DAW doesn't auto-detect it, point the plugin scanner at your VST3 folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 on Windows, /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 on macOS) and rescan.
Choose Your Sound
Pick waveforms for each of the three oscillators. Sine for warmth, saw for brightness, square for that classic digital edge, pulse for PWM sweeps, triangle for mellow tones, noise for texture and transients. Detune them in cents for stereo width. Stack all three for fat, powerful patches. Browse 500+ factory presets to start from a finished sound.
Shape with the Filter
Select your filter type: LPF is the classic choice for pads (roll off the highs for warmth), BPF for leads (isolate the midrange presence), HPF to clean up low-end mud. Then use the envelope to add movement — attack brings the filter open over time, decay lets it snap back, sustain holds a tonal plateau. Resonance adds character and harmonic focus at the cutoff point.
Add Modulation
Route LFO 1 to the filter cutoff for an auto-wah sweep. Route LFO 2 to pitch for gentle vibrato. Both LFOs can sync to your DAW's BPM so modulation locks to the groove. Use the MOD wheel in your MIDI controller for real-time cutoff control. Use portamento for smooth pitch glides between notes. These tools are what separate static patches from living, breathing sounds.
Polish with FX
Add reverb for space — a small room brings intimacy, a large hall brings grandeur. Delay for depth — a quarter-note delay makes a simple lead feel massive. Distortion for edge — even a subtle soft-clip warms up a cold digital pad. The compressor glues everything together. Run your signal through as few or as many of the 12 modules as the sound calls for. Then bounce, render, or record in real time.
